Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?"
I asked the class to sit quietly, with eyes closed and attention turned inward to ask this very question of themselves. Where in your life can you make a difference that will better the lives of others in your immediate circle of family and friends, neighborhood, community, and finally the world?
Celebrating Martin Luther King Day once a year gives us the opportunity to check in with ourselves and ask this very question and bring us back on track to what's most important in life.
I'll leave you with one final quote from Dr. King:
All I'm saying is simply this, that all life in interrelated, that somehow we're caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever effects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.
Namaste~
