If you are like me and have consistent lower back problems such as sciatica, nerve irritation, or simply a stiff lower back then opening up the lower two chakras may bring relief to the area. When the 1st Chakra or Root Chakra is out of balance the following symptoms may occur: sciatica, osteoarthritis, obesity, constipation, and knee troubles. A stiff lower back may also occur when the 2nd Chakra or Sacral Chakra is out of balance. Additional imbalances of the 2nd Chakra include bladder or kidney trouble, frigidity, or impotence.
If you are or ever do experience any of the above symptoms then I recommend incorporating into your yoga practice the following yoga poses to open up the stagnant energy that may be residing in the first two chakras of the body.
Starting your practice with grounding poses (asanas) such as Child's pose (Balasana), Cat/Cow (Marjaryasana/Bitilasana), and Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) will open up the 1st Chakra. Moving into the following hip and pelvic poses will open the 2nd Chakra: Warrior II pose (Virabhadrasana II), Extended Side Angle pose (Utthita Parsvakonasana), and Triangle pose (Trikonasana), and Half Moon pose (Ardha Chandrasana).
While doing these asanas try sending positive energy to the lower two chakras and circulate your inhale and exhale around this area of the body. If you need something to help visualize this location in the body imagine the color red for the 1st Chakra, located at the base of the spine and for the 2nd Chakra image the color orange, located just below the navel around the sexual organs.
Until next Wednesday,
Namaste~
Chica
