Earth Day Yoga

I conducted class outside tonight in honor of the 40th Earth Day celebration tomorrow. We stood under a clear beautiful sky, soaking up the evening sun, as the warm wind brushed gently against our skin. There is no better theater to do yoga than the outdoors, connecting mind, body, and spirit with the rhythms of the earth. Nature provided us with the sounds of birds chirping and an older gentleman graced us with his beautiful harmonica playing while we moved to the music that spontaneously surrounded us. We gave thanks tonight as we sank our toes into the moist earth. I will leave you with the following Native American quote in hopes that you do one little thing tomorrow to honor our great Mother we call Earth.

Thanksgiving

We return thanks to our mother, the earth,
which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams,
which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs,
which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars,
which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun,
that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit,
in Whom is embodied all goodness,
and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.

Until next Wednesday,
Namaste~
