I like Thanksgiving time. It's the only time of year that focuses on being thankful for the things we have. Most of the year we tend to focus on what we do not have and on how different we are from the next person. But if we can practice kindness or altruism during this time of year, why can't we do it all year long? The answer is we can. If we put the same determination into practicing kindness that we use to reshape our bodies with exercise, we could transform ourselves into becoming a kinder and more compassionate person. So starting this season practice altruism and see if you can continue practicing it throughout the year. At first it may take some effort but as you become more proficient at it through practice it will become second nature. You might even begin to notice just how similar you are to the person standing next to you.
